Slideshow Story

The guidelines of this project were to interpret the theme of a journey. I interpreted this theme in the style of the types of journeys depicted in books and media produced for children. I've always thought stories where intimate objects come to life unbeknownst to the humans that own them are very fun and whimsical; the film Toy Story and the book Arnie the Doughnut are great examples of these concepts that. I wanted to depict a non-human character, in this case, a toy, going on a journey to find its way back home to its owner after being mistakenly dropped from her bag while leaving school. I wanted most of the photos after the toy is dropped to look like they could have been taken from the toy's perspective on the world; shots that were taken from very low to the ground, often looking up and making the world around the toy look very big. My hope is that the shift from following the girl on her way out of school to following the toy trying to get back to her is clear. In my storyboard sketches, I drew the toy as the popular character Marcel the Shell, as he was an inspiration of this theme and I was still unsure what toy or stuffed animal I would be using in my images while in the planning stage.
